Dentro de la municipalidad la flora y la fauna es muy hermosa, en la flora existe una gran variedad de árboles hermosos, unos frutales, otros maderables o forestales; las especies frutales son entre otras: higuera, capulín, peral, manzano, zapote, granada, olivo, chabacano, tejocote, nogal y durazno. Los maderables o forestales son: oyamel, abeto, cedro, pino, ciprés, trueno, álamo, sauce llorón, pirúl que es muy abundante; encino blanco y chico. La fauna se ha ido extinguiendo, debido a la explotación inmoderada de los bosques, existe una gran variedad de animales, tanto de cría como silvestres; de ellos destacan los cerdos; que desde la época colonial se crían en la región; gallinas, guajolotes, conejos, palomos, vacas, caballos, borregos, cabras, codorniz, patos, gansos. IXTAPALUCA:El nombre propio mexicano es Iztapayucan, que se compone de iztatl, sal, pallutl o pallotl, mojadura, y de can lugar; y significa: "lugar donde se moja la sal".
